The Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre (SECC) has announced the appointment of Mark Laidlaw, former Scottish Rugby Union director of management services, as director of operations.
Laidlaw joins SECC from Scottish Rugby Union, where he was director of management services, responsible for developing Murrayfield Stadium, reshaping the stadium’s events programme with some of the world’s largest music and sporting events.
Peter Duthie, SECC chief executive said Laidlaw’s “experience in managing and developing a major venue and expertise in delivering a world class events programme” will be a huge asset to the role.
“The addition of the SSE Hydro has significantly extended our campus and the role of operations director will continue to be a challenging one with future investment already in place for expansion of our facilities. We are delighted to welcome him on board as we focus on the long term future and success of the company.”
Laidlaw said: “I have watched the development of the SECC campus over the years and as a frequent visitor to its iconic venues, I have admired the business vision and success. I am excited and privileged to be taking on this role and look forward to playing my part in contributing to the next phase of our business’s future.”
He will replace Malcolm Close, who will continue to be involved in the company as the new Projects Director.
